Thought it was over? We WISH! April 5th is looming so here is everything you need to know about the potential TikTok ban.

In late January of this year TikTok was banned in the U.S. The app went dark for 170 million U.S. users, something we never thought we would ever see come to fruition. However, after just 12 hours it came back again. President Trump stepped in and saved the day which is ironic considering he attempted to ban the platform 4 years prior.

However, it wasn’t officially saved from extinction but rather delayed from imminent shut down until the 5th April; which felt like ages away until we all realised that is TOMORROW?!? So what happens now?

Here Are The Options

TikTok Is Sold To A U.S. Company - Some of the contenders include MrBeast, Kevin O’Leary, Jesse Tinsley, Amazon & Oracle.

The Reconstruction Of TikTok - This is probably the best option with U.S. investors being able to control U.S. data security while ByteDance will continue to maintain the beloved algorithm.

TikTok Gets Banned For Good For 170 Million U.S. Users - This would cause utter social media chaos as they migrate over to another app.

Trump Delays The Deadline Again - Which would be an indecisive nightmare causing him to potentially face legal action.

The Beloved TikTok Algorithm

ByteDance will allow TikTok to be sold to a U.S. company but they aren’t passing over their algorithm with it meaning if any of the potential buyers attain the platform, it will basically become a new app anyway.

Considering no U.S. company has been able to replicate this impressive algorithm before, there isn’t high hopes that the new owners will be able to keep TikTok as the TikTok we know and love today.

TikTok's Fate In The UK

I know, I know, why are we so worried about this when it isn’t getting banned in the UK?

1) If 170 million U.S. users migrate to another app, UK users will likely move there as well making TikTok redundant.

2) In many occasions when the U.S. make a change the UK follow suit meaning our government could also bring forth this ban due to security concerns.

3) For agencies who work with U.S. based clients, a plan needs to be put in place for how they are going to navigate this change.

Whatever the conclusion is to this ban tomorrow, there is a high chance the social media landscape as we know it will change because of this decision.
